Alto Araguaia is located 415 kilometers from Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso. This complex consists of two joined power plants, both placed on the left bank of the Araguaia River in the urban perimeter of Alto Araguaia.
The Alto Araguaia complex has two 0.2 MW Francis type units and was commissioned in 1968; the Alto Araguaia II works with one 0.8 MW Francis unit. The two mini-hydros run from the river fed by two open surface channels connected to a simple side river intake.
