Alto Paraguai is located 220 kilometers from Cuiabá and 13 kilometers from Diamantino city, near the Paraguai River springs. The power plant was built in 1970, which includes two Francis units of 0.8 MW and one of 0.88 MW.
The mini-hydro construction is run from the river with no reservoir. A 100 meter-long open channel connects the water intake (concrete weir) to the forebay. A long pressure concrete duct, followed by a steel penstock feeds the two generating sets fitted in the powerhouse.
