Culuene is located 340 kilometers from Cuiabá on the left bank of Culuene River in the town of Paranatinga. The plant includes a small Ambursen dam reservoir with a built-in forebay, three steel penstocks and a powerhouse with three 0.64 MW propeller turbines, two built in 1985 and the last one in 1989.
