Location: La Jolla, CA
This Wind Resource Specialist (WRS) position will be part of the Engineering and Construction (E&C) department and an integral member of the Wind Center of Excellence (WCoE) team. This position will be a primary support to the Business Development (BD), E&C, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams for Enel Green Power North America, Inc. The WRS will support many aspects of wind projects, including:
- Site wind resource assessments and site capacity potential for Greenfield project evaluations;
- Developing site measurement plans;
- Managing contracts related to the scopes of the W-CoE (Data Treatment, Wind Resource Assessment);
- Developing optimized turbine layouts for various turbine types and site capacities in order to maximize the project value;
- Support turbine suitability analysis for projects under evaluation;
- Final wind resource assessments for financial due diligence;
The WRS will work from our La Jolla, CA office and will report to Project Design and Performance Evaluation Manager of Enel Green Power North America.
Responsibilities:
- Support initial site wind resource evaluation and project layouts for Greenfield projects
- Prepare wind assessment measurement plans for each Greenfield site, including various technologies such as sodar, lidar, cup anemometry
- Investigate potential long-term reference stations for wind resource analysis
- Manage collection and interpretation of wind resource data, processing, QC and analysis done by 3rd party consultants
- Work with W-CoE team to maintain current practices and procedures, and to identify potential areas of improvement
- Conduct site visits to inspect and identify candidate measurement locations including coordination with permitting, engineering, and construction efforts as needed
- Coordinate with BD/E&C to define met tower types to be considered for proposed locations
- Prepare configurations for each met tower, including sensor vendors, mounting configuration, data communications, etc.
- Support with met tower permitting and installation process and coordination of remote sensor deployment strategies
- Manage coordination of measurement instrument maintenance and servicing and equipment inventory
- Coordinate with internal teams and lead the development of preliminary wind turbine array layouts for Greenfield sites and detailed optimized layouts for advanced projects
- Participate in wind turbine equipment evaluation and selection process
- Support wind turbine micrositing process with respect to energy and suitability perspective
- Participate in interdisciplinary development and construction team meetings
Requirements/Qualification:
- 3+ years wind analysis experience with a wind power developer, wind turbine manufacturer or wind power consulting engineering firm
- Demonstrated project management skills and abilities
- Advanced understanding of wind flow principles
- Proficiency with wind energy software i.e. WAsP, WindFarmer, or WindPro
- Proficiency with project design software i.e. XMap, ArcView, and/or other GIS software
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with meteorological measurement equipment, techniques and standards, in particular IEC guidelines 61400-12
- Ability to be on your feet walking over rugged terrain in various weather conditions at least 50% of the day. Climb ladders/stairs and lift as required to perform necessary job tasks.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of time
- BS or MS in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
