The photovoltaic plant in Deruta, near Perugia, has an installed capacity of 1 MW and is able to generate over 1.2 million kWh annually, equivalent to the average energy consumption of around 450 households. This will save almost 105 TOE (tonnes of oil equivalent) of fossil fuel a year and prevent around 700 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
The ground-based photovoltaic plant with 3,300 polycrystalline silicon panels was installed on agricultural land owned by the University of Perugia, the plant covers a total area of approximately 2.5 hectares.
