We’re smashing record after record and now we have crossed the 3 GW threshold of renewable capacity built

For some, chasing victories is all about beating the competition and for others, it’s about tearing down walls that seemed insurmountable. For us instead, it’s about pushing beyond our limits. In 2019 Enel Green Power did just that, establishing a new record for newly-built renewable capacity throughout the world, pegged at roughly 3,029 MW and marking a 190 MW increase compared to 2018, while bringing the overall total managed capacity to over 46 GW. As much as it’s remarkable, goals aren’t reached in a single day. Just like Serhij Bubka, the legendary pole vault champion that kept breaking its own world record back-to-back, we’ve also become World Champions through a constant training regiment that allowed us to jump 1 more MW at a time for each day. Our recipe for success Surpassing the 3 GW mark of additional newly-built capacity is an achievement of global proportions that could only be reached by upgrading our entire manufacturing structure to a new level of production capacity. This result represents a new benchmark for the sector and reaffirms once again our global leadership in the renewables sector.” – Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Green Power As EGP confirms itself in 2019 as the world’s biggest renewable energy privately-owned operator, its newly-built capacity comes from 47 power stations, mostly wind farms and solar parks. “Luck had no part in this. It was sheer planning, so we worked on the design stage, and we’ve worked on how to make construction safer, and also on the entire production chain. In this way, we were able to manage a portfolio of about 70 facilities spread in over 20 countries. This achievement was made possible thanks to the know-how and commitment from both colleagues and suppliers that worked day after day to make it real.” – Umberto Magrini, Head of Engineering & Construction - EGP In geographic terms, a sizeable share of our capacity comes from the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Spain, and Italy. All countries where we’re operating with an integrated business structure, catering to local markets that are increasingly receptive to sustainability through our energy generation and distribution services. The energy transition is underway and we play a crucial role in it! Carbon-neutral energy sources have become increasingly competitive compared to fossil fuels. Furthermore, these renewable power stations are scalable, come with much shorter construction schedules, and respect the environment in all phases of construction. “For all high energy-intensive sectors, it’s more convenient to consume renewable energy considering current prices of fossil fuels. Surely, renewable power stations have become increasingly competitive while countries like Chile and Spain are witnessing the economic convenience of shutting down fossil fuel-powered power plants. The next big challenge we have lined up is achieving 57% of renewable energy production in a sustainable way by 2022, working in a “circular economy” mode and focusing strongly on the useful lifecycle of services and products. During the construction phase of the power plants, abiding by the “sustainable worksite” model, Enel Green Power calls for setting up solar PV panels in every worksite to render carbon neutral a part of their energy supply, together with other eco-friendly solutions like water conservation efforts through the fitting of rainwater catchment systems, as well as the use of EVs to shuttle workers to, from and within the worksite.
