Luigi La Pegna

Head of Hydro, Geothermal and Thermal Generation

Luigi La Pegna is Head of Hydro, Geothermal and Thermal Generation for Enel Green Power and Thermal Generationthe Enel business line that deals with power generation from renewable sources – through Enel Green Power – as well as conventional ones.

Under Luigi’s leadership, this new organizational unit focuses on the energy transition; its fundamental mission is carrying out our coal phase-out plans.

Part of the Enel Group since 2001, Luigi has worked as Director for the Development and Execution of Renewable Energy, Country Manager for EGP France, Head of Project Management & Control at Enel Green Power, and Head of Project Management & Execution for Enel E&R, for the execution of all new projects for Global Generation (coal, CCGT, diesel, large hydroelectric) and the renovation of existing plants for 80,000 MW.

From 2016 to May 2021, when he took on his new role, Luigi was Head of Global Operation and Maintenance for EGP. He has been on several Boards of Directors and, from 2013 to 2015, he was the CEO of PowerCrop Group (Biomass).

In his career, Luigi has managed global investments in the aerospace sector (2 years with the European Space Agency), the diesel fuel sector (9 years with Mannesmann Anlagenbau AG) and civil and infrastructure for high-speed trains (3 years with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the Italian Railway Network).

Luigi has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rome, with specialization in General Management (Northwestern and Harvard University) and two Master’s in Administration, Finance & Control and Business Management.

Luigi has also registered five international patents for innovative wind units, and represented Italy for eleven years on the GSEP (Global Sustainable Energy Partnership) Project Committee. He is married with two children and is fluent in English, French, Spanish and German. Luigi likes playing music, studying languages and Classical history, swimming, sailing, tennis and volleyball.
