Beers produced by using geothermal heat from EGP plants in Tuscany awarded as successful “Made in Italy” delights
Once again, recognitions flow in for Vapori di Birra, the first craft brewery in Italy to use the geothermal steam from Enel Green Power as the primary source of energy for their industrial process.
“The beer, brewed at Sasso Pisano in the town of Castelnuovo Val Di Cecina (Pisa), is available in three types, whose names reflect the peculiar context of their production: Magma, Geyser and Sulphur.”
The beer Magma received special mention as “Italian Beer of the Year”, an award reserved for the youngest breweries (in production since 1 January 2014) during the official awards ceremony of the 4th Edition of the Cerevisia Awards, a contest for quality Italian beers established by the BaNAB (National Board of Beer Tasting).
The purpose of BaNAB is to foster and promote the production, trade and consumption of national brewing products.
The Cerevisia Award is distinguished from other industry initiatives because of its scientific value, which guarantees the evaluative steps of selection (physical chemical exam conducted at CERB and a competent tasting jury working with the panel test method) as well as for its institutional matrix, as certified by the Mipaaf’s patronage of the 2016 edition.
On 9 October, it was the National Changes Award’s turn, staged in Pisa on the occasion of the Internet Festival 2016. 17 new companies participated that have distinguished themselves for using new technologies, new methods and challenging the markets in an innovative way. Vapori di Birra was awarded the “Best Start Up of Made in Italy and of Tradition”.
The goals achieved by the “geothermal” brewery confirm the extraordinary characteristics of the Tuscan territory where Enel Green Power, besides producing electricity from renewable sources, collaborates with local institutions, with the Co.Svi.G (Consortium for the Development of Geothermal Areas) and with the associative network for cultural and touristic promotion initiatives. These situations use the peculiarities of the heat made available by geothermal vapour to obtain high quality production, able to earn similar recognition.
