The event format launched by EGP, which has already seen huge success with the public, is back for its second year: new stops, new activities, but with the same energy as always.
Following its huge success with the public last year, it’s time for the 2017 edition of “Open Plants”, Enel Green Power’s event format to show how renewable energy is produced and to give the area the chance to express itself and show off its best products.
The new season was officially kicked off last weekend with events at the hydroelectric plants of Piedimonte Matese (CE) and Zogno (BG), where visitors big and small were able to explore the plant, taste local products and participate in activities and educational workshops, all accompanied by music and entertainment.
“Thanks to Open Plants, our plants become the “main square of the town” for one day, a place for coming together and new experiences, where everyone can spend time and share energy.”
Energy and solidarity in the province of Caserta
Hundreds of students took part in the first day of Open Plants 2017, held on Saturday 20 May at the Piedimonte Matese plant, in the province of Caserta, open to the public from 9:30 to 2:30pm. The programme started with a guided tour of the plant, to discover its functions and secrets, followed by the interactive game "Everyone in the plant" where the kids present were "transformed" into different phases of energy production: a step-by-step journey to understand how renewable energy is born.
There were many displays and workshops to discover the delights of Campania, in addition to a photography exhibit about the foundation and history of the Piedimonte Matese plant. “Hundreds of kids from middle and elementary schools were there, plus students from the area’s technical and professional institutes”, said Giovanni Gillini, Head of P.U. Matese. “It was great to answer the many questions from our young guests, who took part in the day’s activities enthusiastically”.
Then it was time for lunch, with a lunch buffet with typical products organised by the social coop “CTR Noesis – Onlus” in the former canteen of the plant.
“Since last 28 January, the canteen has been used by the charity, which offers meals to people in need or that are socially excluded, from Monday to Saturday.”
In Zogno together with the Giro d’Italia
On Sunday 21 May, EGP opened the doors of the Zogno hydroelectric plant, in Val Brembana, a historical building designed at the end of the nineteenth century and brought into operation in 1903. The 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia between Valdengo and Bergamo passed through with the plant as a backdrop: there were many activities organised for the occasion, including tastings of local products, games and educational workshops, in addition to the chance of following the cycling competition live on a maxi screen.
“A day to learn about history, culture, energy and leisure, held in one of the most beautiful sustainable energy factories in the area. EGP, with its many initiatives in the area, wants to show the town its vision for a sustainable and innovative energy future.”
During the day, a new “Energy Game”, an original feature of the 2017 edition of Open Plants, also took place. Four teams with players of all ages faced off in various challenges to test their ability to save and make choices by following the so-called “3 Rs”, that is, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and also on the knowledge of different forms of energy and the correct way to sort rubbish.
“More than 600 people participated in Open Plants day at the Zogno plant. Children learned lots of new things about renewable energy and discovered many peculiarities and features of the area. We are proud to have opened our plant to the public, helping to promote knowledge about the local realities of Val Brembana”, commented Giovanni Mura, Institutional Affairs for Lombardy and Liguria.
Following the events in Piedimonte Matese and Zogno, Open Plants will be back on Saturday 17 June in the spaces of the Ponte San Martino hydroelectric plant, in the province of Treviso.
