About the plant
Powered by the winds of the Great Plains
Rattlesnake Creek is one of the largest wind farms in Nebraska. Located in Dixon County, it began operations in 2018. The plant generates around 1,300 GWh of sustainable energy each year using 101 turbines. It eliminates 940,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, which is roughly the amount produced by 200,000 vehicles. It can generate the energy equivalent of over 105,000 US households.

The Rattlesnake Creek wind farm is providing Facebook and Adobe tailor-made renewable energy solutions to help them achieve their sustainability goals. Facebook is powering its new Sarpy Data Center (former Papillion Data Center) entirely with renewable energy, making it one of the most energy-efficient data centers in the world, and software leader Adobe is purchasing 10 MW of energy for its operations.

Community Impact
Enel Green Power is committed to creating long-term shared value and has had an immediate positive impact on the communities of central Nebraska. 300 new jobs were created during the plant’s construction, and this had a significant impact on Dixon County’s economy. Enel gave the area a further boost by purchasing 11 million dollars in goods and services from local companies. While 31 miles of new roads were being built, Enel Green Power collaborated with local associations and groups that protect fish and wildlife to minimize the environmental impact.
The company supported the Rural Workforce Housing Investment Fund in Wakefield. This is used by the community to remodel or build new homes to help the area attract and maintain a rural work force. Throughout the project, Enel Green Power will sponsor education and training in science, technology and renewable energy, providing scholarships to local students so that they can take part in training programs for the wind technicians of the future.

Enel Green Power is committed to the “sustainable worksite” model and the Creating Shared Value model (CSV). When it builds projects, it monitors sustainability performance for energy, waste and water management, and the economic impact on the local community.
