The plant
Bagaladi Motta Montebello Wind Farm
Commissioned in 2012, the Bagaladi Motta Montebello Wind Farm extends across the municipalities of Bagaladi, Motta San Giovanni and Montebello Ionico, on the southern slopes of the Aspromonte massif in Calabria. The facility consists of 33 wind turbines located between 750 and 1,100 meters above sea level in an area naturally exposed to strong winds.
With an installed capacity of 28.05 MW, the wind farm recorded production of 38,622 MWh in 2025. The facility is located in a territory connecting the Aspromonte hinterland with the Ionian coast of Reggio Calabria, among nature trails and areas within the Aspromonte National Park.

Impact on Local Communities
The Bagaladi Motta Montebello Wind Farm is located in a territory connecting the Aspromonte hinterland with the Ionian coast of Reggio Calabria, among historic villages, nature trails and coastal locations.
Bagaladi preserves its connection with agricultural traditions and the Grecanic area, with places of interest such as the Church of San Teodoro Martire and the Gateway to the Aspromonte National Park. Motta San Giovanni is home to the Castle of Sant’Aniceto and the Leucopetra Archaeological Area, while Montebello Ionico combines its medieval historic center with the coastal locations of Saline Joniche and Fossato Jonico.
The area is also crossed by the trails of the Aspromonte National Park and the routes of Greek Calabria, including the Brigand’s Trail (Sentiero del Brigante), one of the best-known hiking routes in Aspromonte. Within this landscape of nature, historic centers, mountains and sea, the Bagaladi Motta Montebello Wind Farm is integrated as an integral part of the territory.
