The agrivoltaic park at Cancello ed Arnone
The Cancello ed Arnone agrivoltaic park is located in the municipality of the same name in the province of Caserta, in southern Italy.
The plant has an installed capacity of about 13.5 MW. The park is equipped with bifacial photovoltaic modules – which absorb energy from both sides – mounted on “trackers” that follow the Sun’s movement in order to maximize renewable energy production. A special feature of this plant is the adoption of the agrivoltaic model: through the integration of renewable energy production and selected crops based on the specific site, this power plant will contribute to Italy's energy transition goals while enabling efficient and multiple land use.
Oats, vetch, barley and crimson clover, or alternative fodder crops, will be grown below and around the PV module support structures. The crops will be planted from November-December each year until May the following year.
