Since entering the state a decade ago, Enel Green Power has created approximately 1,250 construction jobs and employs around 70 full-time personnel across its five existing Kansas wind farms. The construction and operation of the Diamond Vista wind project will create an additional 450 construction jobs and 10-12 full-time positions in the area, bringing economic growth to the state and new opportunities to local Kansans. For example, Enel Green Power recently partnered with the National Fish and Wildlife Service to provide $8.5 million to support the research and preservation of Kansas’ beautiful tallgrass prairie habitat. The company has also provided approximately $300,000 to fund local education and scholarship programs, including the Cloud County Community College Foundation which provides scholarships for Kansas students pursuing a degree or certificate in wind energy technology. Rafael González, Head of Enel Green Power North America PPA: A new value of energy Enel Green Power acquired the Diamond Vista wind project from Tradewind Energy, a long-term strategic development partner with headquarters in Kansas. The expansion of wind power in our home state is due to the foresight of those who keep pressing toward sustainability and low-carbon energy solutions." Once operational, Enel Green Power will sell the energy generated by Diamond Vista under three separate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including one for 84 MW with Tri-County Electric Cooperative of Oklahoma (TCEC), another for 100 MW with City Utilities of Springfield (CU), and another for 100 MW with global manufacturing company, Kohler. Sustainability tailored to industries and consumers With these PPAs, Enel Green Power is supporting greater residential use of sustainable energy in the region, and helping Kohler reach its sustainability goals while also maintaining its bottom line. "We are pleased to partner with Enel Green Power to play a leading role in reducing traditional power sources to power the grid. This project is one component of Kohler’s comprehensive strategy to produce ‘Net Zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. In addition, we will continue to drive energy efficiency, implement new manufacturing advancements, and develop new products requiring less energy to make." Rob Zimmerman, director of sustainability at Kohler Co Kohler will use the energy purchased from the Diamond Vista wind project to supply 100 percent of the annual electricity needed to power its US and Canadian operations, including its 85 manufacturing facilities, offices and warehouses. This is expected to reduce Kohler’s global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25 percent. “As a non-profit electric cooperative, TCEC is always looking for ways to meet rising demand and control rates for our members,” said Zac Perkins, chief executive officer for TCEC. “Entering into this agreement with the Diamond Vista wind project is an innovative way to achieve those goals and an added benefit to our membership.” “Our mission is to responsibly serve our customers and community beyond their expectations,” said Scott Miller, General Manager for City Utilities of Springfield. “The partnership with Diamond Vista wind project will expand our renewable energy portfolio with another high-quality wind source.
