From 7 to 9 September 2016, at the exhibition center of Casablanca "Office des Changes" the second edition of Photovoltaica, the trade fair and convention dedicated to renewable technologies at the centre of different plants built in Morocco, was held. Organised under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the International Fair strengthens its role as a platform where energy projects launched by the Moroccan Ministry of Energy and the Environment are shared.
The policy enacted in recent years aims to attract and concentrate private investment in the development of renewable sources, a new driver of the country's economic growth. Enel Green Power, which won the tender for the construction of five wind farms in Morocco totaling 850 MW of capacity, is sponsoring the Salon together with RES4MED, with which it shared a stand. Additionally, on 8 September, RES4MED organised a workshop entirely dedicated to photovoltaic energy, in which Italian skills and their possible application in Morocco were illustrated.
"After many years of work we were acknowledged for our competitiveness and the amazing value creation that we deliver thanks to our expertise”, commented Enel CEO Francesco Starace. “850 MW in Morocco are a great achievement, but we will not stop here: we are also studying other projects and Morocco is a great example of how you can attract investments, create value and solve an energy problem".
Also according to the Head of EGP Business Development Maghreb, Morocco has become the "champion" of North Africa due to the results obtained in recent years in the field of renewables. "The significant growth in electricity demand, a stable legislative framework and the implementation of projects that were included in the government plan are all features that turn Morocco into the first country in the North African region".
