The Vastogirardi wind farms

The Vastogirardi wind farm is located in the Molise Apennines, between the municipalities of Vastogirardi and Capracotta, in the province of Isernia. The plant is located at an altitude of over 1,200 meters, in the heart of Upper Molise, and is able to take advantage of its exposure to the winds that characterize the Mount Montarone ridge. The area is home to two adjacent power plants, Vastogirardi 1 and Vastogirardi 2, with a total of 18 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850 kW: together they can generate more than 15 megawatts of power. The wind turbines are arranged in line with the natural profile of the landscape, with the aim of combining sustainable energy production with respect for the environment.

Impact on local communities

The wind farm is located in an area of natural interest. A major repowering project is underway for the plants, and this entails replacing the 18 turbines currently in operation with four that are latest generation. Thanks to this operation, the total power will increase to 24 MW, which is almost 60% more than the current installed capacity. The project has been designed with a particular focus on sustainability: existing infrastructure, such as roads and cable ducts, will be reused as much as possible in order to minimize the impact on the environment and the local landscape during the construction phase.
