Another award for "Vamvakies: a Social Green Project"

Our agrivoltaic "Vamvakies; a Social Green Project" has won another important award. A few weeks ago, the project was honored at the Bravo Sustainability Awards 2022 and now it has received a gold award in the "Decent Work & Economic Development" category at the Hellenic Responsible Business Awards 2022. The prize-giving ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 13 at the "Hellenic Cosmos" Cultural Center in Athens. We are involved in the Vamvakies project together with Wise Greece (a non-profit Initiative which promotes products made by small Greek businesses), in collaboration with the Bioeconomy & Environment Cluster of Western Macedonia (CLuBE) and the Municipality of Kozani. This project is a great example of the fact that support for local communities in the geographical areas where we are present is a top priority for us. We work with communities around the globe in order to build positive and long-term relationships and at the same time we promote initiatives to support them. Our Energy at the service of the agri-food sector Thanks to this project, the cultivation of agricultural products and, in particular, aromatic plants such as paliouri and mountain tea, is carried out at our Vamvakies solar park by local women. This innovative program helps them develop their entrepreneurial skills, in order to obtain income and support their families. Moreover, all the residents of the Municipality of Kozani can take part in the program, which aims to promote agri-food entrepreneurship in the area. It is a first for Greece. At Enel Green Power we are committed to our vision for a sustainability model that a) creates shared value through initiatives like using land for both food and energy production and b) contributes to the sustainable development of local communities. The program involves giving the women's teams access to the land at our solar power plant and all the necessary tools for the best yield of the crop. It also offers them holistic training, which includes modules like cultivation practices, certification procedures and basic entrepreneurship tools. The major goal is for the trainees to acquire all the necessary skills to create a sustainable business with their own agricultural products. By doing so, they will help change Western Macedonia’s production model, at a time when this is more necessary than ever. Finally, through the Wise Greece network, the women will be able to trade the final products and use the revenue to evolve their business. They will do so by selling the first line of agricultural products from a photovoltaic park.
