EGP’s renewables are powering Colombia’s future

In Colombia, 5 projects by Enel Green Power won 740 GWh/y in the Cargo por Confiabilidad tender. The winning projects, of which three wind turbines and two solar ones, starting from 2022, will power the country's energy system with a renewable energy production of about 2,027,533 kWh per day.

5 projects by Enel Green Power won 740GWh/y in the Cargo por Confiabilidad tender, launched by the Colombian government. The winning projects, of which three wind farms and two solar plants (including the El Paso plant already under construction and nearing completion), starting from 2022, will power the country's energy system with a renewable energy production of approx. 2,027,533 kWh per day. These are the first unconventional renewable energy projects to win this type of competition in the Colombian system.

In the La Guajira department, Windpeshi, Enel’s most advanced wind project in Colombia,Tumawind and Chemesky wind farms slated to add 508 MW-worth of installed capacity, totalling to 2,340 GWh generated annually for the next 20 years.

The La Loma solar project is to be located in Colombia’s Cesar department, providing 173.2 MW of installed capacity that will generate 420.5 GWh annually for 20 years.

Enel Green Power is very active in the same department, where it is currently finalizing the second solar park planned by the tender. El Paso will generate 86.2 MW of installed capacity that will be marketed by Enel-Emgesa, a Colombian power supply subsidiary of Enel Group.

El Paso will ultimately deliver 236,995 kWh/daily to Colombia’s grid for 10 years.

EGP is at Colombia’s side to bolster its renewables

Thanks to tender awarded, EGP is the de facto leader of Colombia’s energy revolution, all of this while developing new operational frameworks like the advancement of intraday energy offers, a push to diversify the country’s existing energy mix and the setting up of a competition-based energy market.

This kind of market approach is solely for the benefit of the country’s streamlining of energy usage, playing a significant role in providing added efficiency to grid network of Colombia, a country where so far we’ve only operated hydroelectric plants.

With our vast field experience and global know-how, Enel Green Power is at the forefront to spearhead Colombia’s drive for energy diversity, fostering and developing the widespread use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, while keeping a close watch on all future opportunities to further develop Colombia’s energy market.
