Published on Wednesday, 13 December 2017

“In 2014, we launched an extensive restoration plan which affected the entire plant complex, where the water is drawn for generation and the 9 km of the derivation channel that brings water to the loading tank. A unique production group was also created, for a bit more than 2 MW, able to meet the needs of about 1,000 households”

The ribbon cutting saw the participation of the main representatives from local institutions, including the mayor Avola, Luca Cannata, the city councillor of Syracuse, Salvatore Piccione, the president of the city countil of Syracuse, Santino Armaro, don Fortunato di Noto, who blessed the plant and the Marquis of Cassibile, Silvestro Gutkowski Loffredo, together with president of the district of Cassibile, Paolo Romano.

The head of Hydropower for the Sicily Area, Placido Calabrò, welcomed visitors on behalf of Enel Green Power, alongside the head of the plant, Luca Selmi, as well as Emanuele Silvestri and Francesco Guadalupi for Enel Institutional Affairs Sicily.

During the inauguration ceremony, a series of activities were also organised for the guests, including an athletic gathering of bikers and runners who went from Fontane Bianche, the famous Syracuse beach location, and reached the plant using two trails through nature.

Also, accompanied by specialised EGP staff, many townspeople were able to visit the plant’s interior, to get to know how electrical energy is produced, with total respect for the environment and the territory.
