Preschool education is very important: it’s the first time that children are away from their parents. They also develop their first social interactions, as they are prepared for their entry into the school world. This is why having the right conditions for their education is essential. The “Classtainer” project came to life once these needs were identified and the concepts of the circular economy were put into practice. This project involved taking a disused container, which had served as an office in the construction phase of the Enel Green Power Chucás hydroelectric plant in Costa Rica, and refurbishing it as a classroom for two small public schools in the communities of Chucaz de Mora and Balsa de Atenas. The Classtainer project has benefited preschool students, providing them with a safe space for their lessons, in addition to advancing the goal of considerably reducing waste through reduction, recycling and reuse activities. Furthermore, it has helped strengthen the relationship with the communities around the plant: it’s a clear example of how circularity creates value for everyone.
