From suppliers to partners: collaborating to meet the challenges of the future and succeed together

Changing the way we produce the energy that powers our lives is essential; so too is accelerating the pace of change. That’s why, in addition to consistently increasing financial investments in renewable energies this decade, we at Enel Green Power are also investing in the capacity to innovate and find solutions to the challenges we’re facing and to combine innovation and sustainability. We also rely on external energies, like those of our suppliers and contractors, who are increasingly becoming partners and allies in the energy transition. In order to reach 2030 with more than 100 gigawatts of additional capacity from renewables – which means the demand for the necessary materials will double over the next four years – we need suppliers who are reliable and punctual. We’re working to increase integration with the supply chain in the search for new materials and new technologies, digitalizing processes and products. To achieve such important goals, we need to be disruptive and reinvent the way we work. We need to simplify, to find smarter solutions and give our partners more autonomy. This means a genuine transformation of the relationship that is characterized by greater integration, information sharing and the adoption of the principles of sustainability, health, safety and the environment. For this reason, we’ve put in place new operating models for managing the on-site construction phase of our future solar and wind power plants. These innovations concern contracts and the relationship with our suppliers as a whole; our aim is to increase the level of collaboration between us and our contractors for our mutual benefit, increasing efficiency in the field for both of us. The key factors are a greater autonomy to our partners, even and especially during the design phase, and a contractual relationship based on incentives and rewards. We’re forging stronger alliances to accelerate the future and taking a win-win approach in order to create shared value. That’s how, for example, the three-year Strategic Partnership was created. The Strategic Partnership – which is mainly applied in more developed countries – is designed to ensure the long-term operational capability of our contractors, to build trust and transfer clear responsibilities to our partners. Then there is the New Delivery Model 2.0, which combines the potential of a classic framework agreement with increased autonomy and responsibilities for the contractor, in order to optimize interfaces, responsibilities and risks. Since 2021, Enel Green Power has adopted a Collaborative Agreement framework in which all contractors working on the same project agree to share the benefits and savings resulting from optimization choices. So, becoming our partner means taking part in the plant design and development phases, sharing best practices and collaborating in drafting the standards of the future. We provide the tools and the platforms for the management of a shared and transparent project. With long-term business relationships, we want to grow together with our partners and the industry to meet new challenges and work together in order to excel. Being our partner means being an active part of the joint effort to achieve decarbonization, with a commitment to sustainability, worker safety and the growth of the renewables supply chain.
