About the contributor

Joan Groizard

Joan Groizard is an engineering graduate from the University of Cambridge. He has worked in the renewable energy sector in several European countries and as a consultant in the field of low-carbon energy. He began his institutional career as Director-General of Energy and Climate Change in the Government of the Balearic Islands where, among other things, he promoted the regional law on Climate Change and the Energy Transition. In November 2018 he joined IDAE as Director of Renewable Energies and the Electricity Market. From this position he led the definition of policies and measures in the Government's Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, promoted help lines and technical guidelines in renewable energies and enabled IDAE to regain its position as a point of reference in the energy debate. He also took part in the development of the energy strategy of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, in particular, promoting self-consumption and consumer involvement in the energy field. He has been the IDAE’s Director-General since September 2019.
